Coconut Water for Kids: Healthy and Balanced

!±8± Coconut Water for Kids: Healthy and Balanced

Concerned parents want their children to eat and drink healthy choices. Childhood obesity levels are soaring and more and more kids are in health crisis mode each day. Coconut water can help!

Packing your child's school lunch or sport snack is an opportunity to leave out the over-sweet "fruit drinks" that are more sugar than natural fruit, and add in a coconut water container of wholesome goodness.

Coconut water is the purest liquid next to water. It is isotonic which means that it easily slides into the body's cells to hydrate and nourish as well as water does. Plus CW has potassium, magnesium, other vitamins, and minerals that will help small (and big) bodies stay in a nutritionally balanced state.

How early can you give coconut water to children? In Central and South American countries, everyone grows up drinking healthy coconut water. It especially is important in the hot tropical climates where dehydration can occur quickly. Those children don't think twice about making CW a vital part of their day.

Read over the labels of the major bands of coconut water: all natural ingredients, low in sugar, high in nutrients, no artificial flavors, no chemicals. Show it to your pediatrician for confirmation that CW is better for your child to drink than soda, sugared "ade" drinks, and many of the fake fruit drinks on your store shelves. Don't overdo it; just add it as a daily drink. And if your child has food or nut allergies, talk this over with your doctor.

The plain coconut water might be a bit of an acquired taste for your little ones (and yourself too), but most companies have introduced natural fruit puree-added flavors that appeal to younger taste buds. Also remember, kids are tuned in to very sweet tastes and need to be weaned away from those choices.

Another excellent use for this liquid nectar is when kids are sick. Trying to rehydrate a child who is vomiting, running a fever, or has diarrhea is often a struggle. How many parents run out to buy the "pedia" drinks only to have a locked-lips refusal to drink it? Coconut water has history as a rehydration drink for ill children in many countries.

Freezing coconut water into "ice pops" makes a refreshing treat especially using pineapple or mango flavored CW. Getting healthy and ill children to finish off an ice pop is not usually hard to do! This is a great "sneaky" way to get your kids to drink more and drink healthy.

Adding coconut water into morning oatmeal or on cereal in place of milk, a splash on salads, or added to soup stock are other ways to get your kids the health benefits of CW without even knowing it. Smoothies appeal to the younger set too so increase their nutrition with CW in their "shakes."

All the major brands (VitaCoco, O.N.E., Naked, Harvest Bay, Zico) come in small containers that fit into lunch boxes or diaper bags. O.N.E. (One Natural Experience) has come out with O.N.E. Kids, which is a blend of coconut water and fruit juice for active little bodies.

However you can get CW into your children, better health is the goal. Taking these steps now will lead your child on the path of good choices. Coconut water has been a healthy drink of choice for all ages around the world. Isn't it time to introduce your family to this nutritious beverage?

Water and Why You Need It

!±8± Water and Why You Need It

Considering your body is made up of fifty to seventy percent water, it's surprising how few people know why it's so important. Did you know that you can survive for weeks at a time without any food. I don't suggest trying it and I'm sure it can't be a good experience for those who have done it. But, things could have been worse. You would never survive that long without water. Without water, in just a matter of days, you will die. Obviously water is important, and the amount of water needed by everyone is different. It varies by sex, by-weight, and my the amount of muscle mass vs the amount of fat you have.

Water Works In Many Ways

Water does a number of things in your body. It helps primarily in the breaking down of other substances, and the transportation of particles throughout your body. Nutrients wouldn't be able to move through your intestinal cell walls to your bloodstream, if your food wasn't firstdissolved and broken down with the aid of water. Much of the waste that is carried out of your body is facilitated by water working with the organs of your body. Biochemical reactions would not occur without water acting as a medium. Metabolism for instance. Electrical impulses that contain messages from your brain to other cells that allow you to see, hear, smell, taste and touch couldn't make the journey without water. Perspiration on your skin, was at one time water in a glass or food you ate. Water is also kind of like the oil in your car, making sure all moving parts are well lubricated.

How Much Water Do I Need

Did you know, that every day you lose water equal to about four percent of your body weight. Thats like 6 pounds for someone of 150 pounds. No wonder experts suggest that we drink about 8 eight ounce glasses of water. Those of you quickly doing the math will realize that those eight glasses of water don't equal 6 pounds. And what if you weigh more than 150 pounds? Fortunately, we can get water into our body from other sources. Pretty much all food we digest contains water in it. Some even more than you may think. Lettuce is about 90 percent water, and probably no one is to surprised about that. But did you know that hamburger is actually more than 50 percent water. Bagels which you would think of as being pretty dry, actually contain about 30 percent water. Good thing I suppose, as I think my taste buds would be revolting if I was forced to drink 6 pounds or more of water every day.

What Are the Benefits to Drinking a Lot of Water? - Health, Beauty and More

!±8± What Are the Benefits to Drinking a Lot of Water? - Health, Beauty and More

What are the benefits to drinking a lot of water? Well drinking water has many health benefits. This liquid is essential to your health and most people actually do not drink enough. Many other beverages are not as beneficial because they contain sugar, salt and other additives that are detrimental to the health and can even cause dehydration. Water by itself is the best drink to stay healthy.

If you are interested in losing weight then H20 is essential as it is needed for many chemical reactions to occur in the body. The kidneys use it to filter toxins and waste out of the body. If the kidneys are not working then the liver will need to work overtime. Once the liver works too hard then fat burning is pushed to the side as the body needs to focus on other functions.

Many ailments such as back pain, headaches and fatigue will disappear when you are properly hydrated. These common ailments are a sign of dehydration. If you tend to get headaches after lunch or start getting sleeping then take a drink. These are the signs that the body is dehydrated so drinking more frequently is important to maintaining your energy and health throughout the day.

By having a glass before eating your will be less hungry. Water takes up space in the stomach and by having a glass before meals or first having a glass when you feel hungry can cause you to eat less. Many times hunger pangs can be a sign that you are dehydrated and that you are not actually hungry at all. Your fluid intake is very effective appetite suppressant.

By being properly hydrated you also will look younger as this keeps the skin plump and healthy. H2O flushes toxins out of the skin and will keep you nice and cool when it gets hot. Muscles also need this liquid to look full and when muscles are flaccid wrinkles and other aging signs can appear. Many women do not understand the power of hydration to their skins appearance. It is also much less expensive then purchasing a facing anti gaining face cream.

There are many signs of dehydration. If you do not pee a lot, experience dry mouth, feel faint or get dizzy then you should get some water fast. Doctors recommend about 8 glasses a day. However drinking too much, more than 2 liters can actually kill you as it creates an imbalance with electrolytes in the body.

Coconut Water Shaved Ice Recipes - Choco Coffee Mountain, Sweet Milk Fruit Medley and Red Bean Ice

!±8± Coconut Water Shaved Ice Recipes - Choco Coffee Mountain, Sweet Milk Fruit Medley and Red Bean Ice

These coconut water shaved ice recipes take this classic dessert to the next level. It's not just a treat for kids anymore, or a vacation snack that you enjoy once every few years. Shaved ice machines are easy to find on-line and inexpensive to add to your kitchen arsenal.

Kids always love shaved ice, but adding coconut water to the mix, adds a touch of sophistication, that makes it suitable for any adult occasion. Your guests will leave dazzled, thinking about how delicious, and original, your coconut water shaved ice recipe was.

Agua de coco is mildly sweet, helping eliminate the need for artificial sweeteners. It's also healthy and invokes visions of a tropical paradise, setting a fun and relaxing mood. Cocont water is packed with potassium and vitamin C, in addition to having many other health benefits, that include, helping with your circulation, strengthening your immune system, clearing your skin, and detoxifying your body.

During summer, it's great for kids or at barbeques, because it's packed with electrolytes, that help rehydrate your body 15 times better than sports drinks, like Gatorade or Vitamin Water, without the calories and artificial sweeteners.

So, here are my coconut water shaved ice recipes. Enjoy!!!

Choco Coffee Mountain Shaved Ice Recipe

For this recipe, you're going to want to brew about two to three cups of coffee with coconut water. Coconut water is mildly sweet and will be undetectable in your coffee machine after a couple of uses.

Add and mix in chocolate syrup until it dissolves in the hot coffee. When it comes to room temperature, freeze this coffee in the containers for your ice shaver.

After you shave the ice, top this sweet, chocolaty coffee treat with chocolate syrup, thin sliced candied almonds, crumbled white chocolate Oreo Hershey's, thin sliced banana and a dollop of whip cream on top. While we're at it, try adding some all natural, unsalted peanut butter in there someplace.

Nobody ever thunk it, but there it is, shaved ice taken to the next level. The next two aren't quite as complicated, but nevertheless, classics that you and your kids will love!

Sweet Milk and Fruit Medley Shaved Ice Recipe

This recipe takes me back to my childhood. I remember the fruit medley cups from my lunchbox in pre-school and then in every school cafeteria from elementary school and on. LOL, fruit medley was one of the only things besides pizza and chocolate milk that I'd eat or drink from those cafeterias. Ahhhh, the memories.

Obviously, we'll need the shaved ice machine and our pre-frozen blocks of coconut water.

Once the ice is all shaved up, drizzle some sweet condensed milk over the top, and top it with canned fruit medley. And, how about some extra condensed milk for good measure?

This one's an old school classic, enjoy!!!

Red Bean and Ice - Shaved Ice Recipe

In addition to consuming lots of shaved ice while I lived in Hawaii, my childhood consisted of many trips to "J-town," as my family would call it, or Little Tokyo, in Los Angeles. From the time I was a little kid, I can remember the hole in the wall restaurant, with a little street food booth in the front, that serves red bean ice. I'm on the cusp of my 31st birthday and still go to the same place, today.

I love this recipe, and it's a cultural treat, so I though I would share it.

You're gonna want the warm red beans, that are nice and sweet, with all the juices reduced down. You can buy these beans already prepared at any Japanese market. Serve the warm red beans in a small bowl or cup and cover them with a layer of shaved ice about one inch thick and drizzle the top with sweet condensed milk.

Ahh, so simple, but so good. This one is actually pretty healthy because, not only do you have the coco water, you have all the nutrients from the red beans as well.

Thank you for checking out my article about my favorite shaved ice recipes that I make with coconut water. Enjoy the benefits of coconut water while indulging in a tasty, refreshing dessert. Enjoy!!!

Benefits of Coconut Water for Flu Treatment: Cure Dehydration, Upset Stomach and Nausea

!±8± Benefits of Coconut Water for Flu Treatment: Cure Dehydration, Upset Stomach and Nausea

Flu season is here, so it's time to discuss the benefits coconut water can have for treating dehydration, nausea, and upset stomachs. Flu, is short for influenza and is a virus that causes dehydration, stomach pain, nausea and aching all over the body. Having the flu is an awful experience, especially for young children. This article showcases how coconut water alleviates the symptoms mentioned above and also has flu treatment recipes to get you on your way to a speedy recovery.

For your body's immune system to work at it's most efficient, your body has to stay properly hydrated. Coconut water has all five electrolytes your body needs to do this. Potassium is the main electrolyte needed, because one, 8.5 oz serving has 15 times more potassium than other sports drinks, like Gatorade or VitaWater.

Because you'll be more hydrated, you'll be feeling better and, it'll also get you cured, faster, because your immune system will be operating more efficiently.

It also has lauric acid, a mineral that benefits you while you have the flu because it helps alleviate the stomach irritation that accompanies the virus. Nausea is another symptom of the flu, because the stomach irritation limits your stomach's ability to hold down food.

An old school flu remedy my mom used to help me re-hydrate when I had the flu, was to give me ice chips.

With what we know about the benefits of coconut water, today, why not take this flu remedy one step further and make ice chips using the water from coconuts? It'll rehydrate you faster than water and calm your stomach. There's also several flavors, with natural fruit extracts, that you could make popsicles with.

Even though I didn't have the flu, I did get food poisoning about 3 weeks ago, that was accompanied with violent stomach pains and frequent trips to the restroom (sorry for being too descriptive). There was one box of coco water left in the house with about 6 ounces in it and I prayed it would help ease my pain.

For the 2 years I've been drinking water from coconuts, it was the first time I'd used it to alleviate some type of medical symptom, besides a hangover. It always helped my hangovers, but I'm pleasantly suprised at how much better it made my stomach feel when I had the food poisoning.

Within 15 minutes, the pain was tolerable and continued fading until I fell asleep.
